Bayern midfielder Tolisso a doubt for Euro 2020 after suffering thigh injury

Bayern Munich midfielder Corentin Tolisso is a doubt for Euro 2020 after he suffered a serious thigh injury.

The France international did the damage when shooting during a training session on Thursday and underwent surgery on Friday.

Bayern boss Hansi Flick said in a news conference that the former Lyon man will be sidelined for at least three months .

It was reported by Bild that Tolisso could be out for up to six months, potentially ruling him out of the rescheduled European Championship which starts on June 11.

The latest injury setback is a cruel blow for the 26-year-old, who was absent for nine months after he ruptured a cruciate ligament and the medial meniscus in his right knee in September 2018.

Bayern head coach Flick said on Friday: I spoke to him on the phone this morning. He s already had an operation today.

It s a severe muscle injury to the front of the left thigh, he s torn a tendon. I m just really sorry for him, we were all shocked in training yesterday when it happened.

We had a goalscoring session, we were taking shots and all of a sudden he limped off the pitch in excruciating pain.

He was back on track, he would have had the option of playing regularly to show his quality because I m more than convinced of his ability. He needs rhythm, he needs time to play and he could have had this time to play. It s a great shame for him and of course now it s about looking forward, I hope he handles the surgery well.

It s a really great shame, a tragedy if you look at his history.

Flick: I feel sorry for him, he was in a lot of pain. He had just showed how much quality he has. I m more than convinced by him. Coco needs rhythm and he would have got that now. I hope it all went well and we will support him now.

Flick added: We expect a downtime of at least three months. I hope he heals well, but it s in a place that is not easy to heal.

He will get the time and has all the support from the club and those responsible. He has to look ahead, that s not always so easy. I ve been injured many times in my career. We have to support him enormously.

There was positive news from Flick on Jerome Boateng, Javi Martinez and Leon Goretzka, who are set to be fit for the Bundesliga leaders trip to Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday.

Benjamin Pavard will not be involved after the full-back tested positive for coronavirus.
