Solskjaer hopeful of welcoming back Pogba against Spurs for Mourinho reunion

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is hopeful of welcoming back either Paul Pogba or Scott McTominay from injury for the Premier League showdown with Jose Mourinho s Tottenham.

Pogba and fellow United midfielder McTominay were absent from Sunday s disappointing 2-2 draw against Aston Villa at Old Trafford.

United star Pogba has been sidelined since September with an ankle injury, while McTominay hurt his ankle in the win over Brighton and Hove Albion prior to the international break.

As former United boss Mourinho – who had a reported falling out with Pogba prior to his sacking in December last year – prepares to return to Manchester with his Tottenham side on Wednesday, Solskjaer provided an update on his midfielders.

Everton 1-1 Tottenham: Andre Gomes suffers serious injury before Tosun scores late leveller

Cenk Tosun headed in a 97th-minute equaliser as Everton rescued a 1-1 draw against Tottenham in a game overshadowed by a serious injury to Andre Gomes.

Despite the absence of Harry Kane through illness, Tottenham appeared set to register their first away win in the Premier League since January thanks to Dele Alli s second-half strike.

However, Mauricio Pochettino s side were unable to hold onto their lead after Son Heung-min was dismissed for a tackle on Gomes that led to the midfielder suffering a severe-looking leg injury.

The South Korea international was visibly shaken following his involvement in the incident, as too was Spurs team-mate Serge Aurier, who Gomes collided with after the initial challenge.

´We all try to keep up with the English clubs´ – Rummenigge points to power of the Premier League

Real Madrid and Bayern Munich face a struggle to compete with Premier League giants because of the financial muscle of top English clubs, admits Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.

The Bayern chief executive says domestic television deals have created a major distortion in wealth between many teams in mainland Europe and those in England.

Speaking at the SPOBIS 2020 business event, Rummenigge also said there was no need for change when it comes to the Champions League after recent talk of expansion.

He spoke from experience when he pointed to how Premier League clubs have been able to attract the best players, the best coaches and create the most profitable academies.

And Rummenigge also stated how even 13-time European champions Real Madrid, whose president Florentin…

Kaka backs Bonucci to help Milan rediscover glory days

Former AC Milan star Kaka believes the Serie A and European giants are ready to emerge from years of mediocrity following the signing of Leonardo Bonucci.

Kaka inspired Milan to Serie A and Champions League glory during his time at San Siro between 2003 and 2009, but the historic club have fallen on tough times in recent years, finishing eighth, 10th, seventh and sixth respectively in the last four seasons.

Not since 2010-11 have Milan claimed the Scudetto, watching helplessly from outside the top four as rivals Juventus dominate Italian football.

But bankrolled by new Chinese investment, Milan are daring to dream again following an extensive off-season overhaul of the squad, which has included the signing of Andre Silva, Lucas Biglia, Hakan Calhanoglu, Ricardo R…

Barcelona are more dependent on Messi than ever – Schuster

Barcelona are more dependent on Lionel Messi than they have ever been, according to Bernd Schuster.

After surrendering their advantage at the top of LaLiga and losing out on the title to arch-rivals Real Madrid, Messi ensured Barca did not suffer further disappointment in the Champions League.

The six-time Ballon d Or winner scored a tremendous solo goal in the last-16 second leg against Napoli last Saturday, while he had another seemingly legitimate goal ruled out by VAR.

Messi s effort helped Barca to a 3-1 victory at Camp Nou, setting up a quarter-final date with Bayern Munich in Lisbon.

Former Barca midfielder Schuster has been unimpressed by the team s displays, claiming they have never been more reliant on Messi than they are under Quique Setien.

Premier League data dive: Vardy inflicts unprecedented damage on a Guardiola team

Manchester City shipped five goals in a home league match for the first time in 17 years as they were shocked by Leicester City on Sunday.

Brendan Rodgers men were in rampant form at the Etihad Stadium and were inspired by Jamie Vardy, who is proving quite the scourge of Pep Guardiola defences.

Tottenham were denied a win over Newcastle United by another late, late penalty in a Premier League match in 2020-21, while Leeds United enjoyed Yorkshire bragging rights over Sheffield United.

West Ham, meanwhile, put Wolves to the sword as manager David Moyes watched on television while in self-isolation.

Juventus fans will learn to love Allegri, says Zaccheroni

Former Juventus boss Alberto Zaccheroni believes the Turin club s fans will look back fondly on Massimiliano Allegri in years to come.

The 51-year-old Allegri is set to leave the Allianz Stadium at the end of the season after five successful campaigns in which they were crowned Serie A champions each year.

He had previously been a rival of Juve at AC Milan and replaced club legend Antonio Conte in charge in 2014, while some fans have grown frustrated with the team s style of play this season and their inability to win the Champions League.

But Zaccheroni, who was head coach in 2010, believes Allegri will become a popular figure down the line.

Allegri has been great, he told Omnisport.

You can achieve success in different ways, but Allegri want…
